This charming 18th century French Hôtel with its cobbled stone courtyard and terrace will have you asking yourself, “Am I still in Paris?” My stay was during the winter months, but I can only imagine how wonderfully relaxing the garden area is during spring and summer - a real respite from the tourist hustle and bustle of Paris.
Room - Hôtel des Grandes Ecoles consists of three buildings surrounding a cobblestone courtyard and garden. My room was opposite the main building which contains the reception and dining areas. Impressive room size - much more spacious than your typical Parisian hotel room. My double bed was quite comfortable. Floor to ceiling french doors, with glass panes, opened onto to the courtyard and provided the room with a great deal of light.
Hôtel des Grandes Ecoles is known for its “French country” look and feel. The floral wallpaper as well as the bed quilt definitely contributed to the ambience.
Although my room was located on the ground floor and had only the above mentioned French doors separating me from the outside world, I still felt safe. But if concerned, I suggest politely requesting a higher floor when making your reservation.
Bathroom- A+. Simple, very clean and much larger than your typical Parisian 3 star hotel.
Bonus - there was a tub!
Closet Space - Relatively limited, but adequate for 1-2 guests.
Extras - Free WiFi; Breakfast available for purchase
Safety - I felt safe. The property is secured behind a large French door or gate. If arriving late, guest must use a door code to enter.
Accessibility - Due to the cobblestone entry way, wheelchair access may be difficult. Communicate any concerns before making a reservation. There is an elevator in the main building.
Location- Great! Latin Quarter. Steps away from restaurants, cafés and bars with a mixture of locals, students and tourists.
Things To Do - Walking distance to the Panthéon, Place de la Contrescarpe and Rue Mouffetard; A 15-20 minute walk to Notre-Dame Cathedral, Shakespeare & Company bookstore, Restaurant Au Vieux d’Acole, Sainte-Chapelle Paris and the Bouquinistes on the river Seine.
Rates- High season :€180+; Low season: €130 or a little lower depending on
