If you ever decide to visit Bangkok, something
I strongly encourage, you really must experience the floating markets, which literally involves local businesses selling their wares (mostly souvenirs), prepared foods, sweets and fresh fruit along some of Bangkok’s major river ways.
It was simply amazing watching this very traditional means of trade and commerce in action - one that dates back centuries.
The floating vendors were well prepared and skilled at whipping up typical Thai dishes and snacks. It was incredible that even on these small boats Thai food still tasted so very fresh and delicious. Basically, each boat is like a little restaurant, fruit stand or souvenir shop.
There are several floating markets in Bangkok which can be easily accessed by taking a tour. Plan to arrive early (before 9am ) as mid-day brings lots of heat and tourists.
The above photographs are of my visit to the Damnoen Saduak floating market. It’s one of the largest and most visited of Bangkok‘s floating markets.
